Activision is still riding the wave of its most profitable franchise by releasing a second expansion for Call of Duty: Black Ops – unless you’re on the PlayStation Network.A map pack expansion, dubbed ‘Escalation,’ has been released worldwide today for download on Xbox Live, just three months after the ‘First Strike’ content pack was released.
Sony’s PSN is still down after a hacking debacle last month, though Activision isn’t too worried for now. According to a spokesperson, the map pack releases are set out a month apart on each platform, with PlayStation 3 set to get the release in a month (followed by PC).
Activision does not anticipate the current situation to impact on the release, and Sony has earlier announced that the online service will be back up and running some time within the week.
A timed exclusive for Xbox consoles was similarly seen on the first map pack release for the game.
The expansion, similar to the original, includes a range of new ‘Zombie’ maps and multiplayer maps.
The zombie addition features George A. Romero (director of horror classics like Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead) amongst other stars of horror and sci-fi like Sarah Michelle Gellar. A ‘Call of the Dead’ map is added to the game, with a ice-covered Siberian setting.
There are four other maps for regular multiplayer, including a Cuban luxury hotel and casino, a new close-quarters map, a Soviet Russian zoo and a bigger Russian farm town.
