Samsung ‘Sports Car’ Notebook Series 9 $2,499 Nabbed By Harvey Norman

The new 13 inch Series 9 is Samsung’s latest answer to the notebook, and “the thinnest and lightest” on the market today.

Sound familiar? Well, maybe the Korean maker is trying to capitalise on the thinner and lighter formula that has worked so well for the Apple iPad 2 tab, although it is the MacBook Air that it is looking to compete with.

Either way, the device has some other strong selling points. It has Intel’s Second Generation Core i5 Sandy Bridge processor, a 13.3 inch LED screen boasting LCD and HD (1366 x 768 res), and a ‘SuperBright Plus’ display (400nit) with 16 million colour reproduction.

And thin and light it is – it weighs just 1.31kg and fits snugly when carrying at 16.3mm thick, and has a naturally flowing arch that fits comfortably in the hand.

Other specs of note are 4GB (128SSD) memory, 1.3 Megapixel HD Webcam, Ethernet, Bluetooth 3.0, supports Intel HD graphics for game lovers, and runs on Windows 7 Home Premium.

Sound wise, it has HD sound and a 3 X 1.5W stereo speaker system.

“The Series 9 is the thinnest and lightest 13 inch notebook in the market,” and has also been recognised for its high performance outdoors, and has a battery time just short of 8 hours, Samsung claims.

Its highly durable duralumin metal alloy casing is used in aircrafts, it is twice as strong as aluminium, and has a “sleek, aerodynamic style much like a premium sports car,” say the makers.

Whether it goes as fast as a car is debatable although Samsung’s Fast Start feature allows users to start working within 22 seconds and the second gen Intel processor should also help it along its way.

However, its available only to Harvey’s until June and then rolled out mass market, priced at an RRP of $2,499.
