Kids Leap Onto iPad Craze With LeapPad

LeapFrog, popular for its gaming and learning handhelds for kids, is launching a 5 inch, extra-durable tablet for kids, featuring a camera, accelerometer and LeapFrog’s backlog of games and apps.UPDATE: The LeapPad Explorer will be available in Australia this September.

The round-edged, child-friendly tablet comes with features for animation and movie recording and editing. A stylus is also included for practising handwriting and use of similar apps.

Games and apps can either be downloaded or bought as cartridges as the pricier option.

The LeapPad Explorer will be available in the UK by mid-year. LeapFrog products are distributed in Australia by Funtastic who have announced a September release for the LeapPad Explorer.

The current Leapster Explorer available in Australia starts at around $150, so expect a similar or higher price for a LeapPad.

Toshiba have a similar but more technically upgraded version of this idea with the children’s laptop it revealed at CES, with only a select few companies looking at the younger market with the all latest in portable computing technology.
