The compact camera and the Full HD handheld video camera market could take a further round of battering with news that HTC is close to launching a new 10-Megapixel Desire HD Smartphone and a Desire Z that will include the capability to shoot high quality video and still pictures.
In Australia the compact camera market and the total camcorder markets are down significantly. In July the total camcorder market fell from 23,962 units to 21,644 according to Infomark data.
The only upside is the HD camcorder market which is set to hit by a new generation of Smartphones. At July 2009 this market did 7,742 units , this has risen to 11,307 units at July 2010.
Next month SmartHouse will be in London for the unveiling of several new products by HTC, among them is tipped to be a new HTC tablet which has already been shown to Telstra executives.
The new tablet will compete head on with the new Samsung Galaxy tablet that will be launched this week in Australia.
Research shows that consumers are choosing to not purchase a new compact camera or pocket sized HD video camera similar to the Cisco Flip but instead are spending extra on a Smartphone such as the new Apple iPhone and offerings from the likes of HRC and Samsung.
