Determined to be a major player in the digital camera market Samsung is set to launch a 12.2-megapixel point-and-shoot digital still camera which the company is describing as “brilliantly simple”. Last week they launched a point and shoot camcorder.
The Samsung PL90, which is expected to sell for $179, has a built-in USB connector which allows the camera to be connected to a PC for charging the battery or sharing images.
The design eliminates the need for multiple cables while providing easy access to photos on the connected PC. It also has a 2.7-inch 230,000-dot LCD screen, 4x optical zoom, and movie recording at 640 by 480 30/15 fps resolution.
To support image storage and sharing, the PL90 ships with an auto-installing Intelli-studio software that enable quickly finding, filing and sharing pictures.
The PL90 also has new Smart Auto technology that enables consumers to capture both motion and still images in a wide variety of conditions.
A Perfect Portrait System in the camera offers several shooting modes, including Self Portrait with face-tracking autofocus. The face-detection feature automatically detects and recognises up to 12 different faces simultaneously.
The PL90 also incorporates smile- and blink-detection features that snap a photo when subjects are smiling and intelligently detects if a subject’s eyes were closed in the shot.
It is not known when the camera will go on sale in Australia.
