Review: Wireless Charge Your iPhone No Cables Needed

Every so often a product comes along that is so simple and effective, that it leaves one to think, why this was not invented years ago. In this case the product is the new Uniden Wireless Power Pad that allows users to charge an iPhone or iPod Touch or a Blackberry phone, without the need to plug the phone into a cable or connect it to a power source. In fact it is so simple and efficient to use, that during the past week I have had no problems with my iPhone battery running flat because every time I put my phone down I simple drop it onto the mat that sits on my desk and it instantly tops up the charge.

How the system works is ingenious. Out of the box you get a simple flat pad that looks like a cooking grill. It has stainless steel strips running across the pad that deliver a power charge. When you plug it into a power socket the pad is live and no you don’t get a shock when you touch it.

Also in the pack is a sleeve for the iPhone or the Blackberry phone range. When you slip one of these onto your phone you will notice a very simple contact pad on the back of the sleeve. When this makes contact with the pad it starts charging.

Prior to getting my hands on the product I thought it looked quite ugly. However in real life this is a slick looking device that does not look out of place on a desk. It is also one of the most functional products we have tested in a long time and one that will be hard to give back.

The device comes in a few different starter pack configurations: The Deluxe Pack, which includes the pad, an iPhone sleeve and a power disc with 8 interchangeable tips retails for $200; A kit that includes just the pad and the iPhone sleeve will retail for $150.

Additional sleeves are $60 each, including the BlackBerry Bold 9000, iPhone, iPod Touch, BlackBerry Bold 9000, BlackBerry Pearl 8100, BlackBerry Curve 8300, and the BlackBerry Curve 8900. You can also grab extra 8 x 6 inch pads for $100.

The pad can charge up to five different gadgets simultaneously and is only available in Black.

The big downside for me was that the device sent to us for testing only had one iPhone sleeve in the box and once my wife saw how simple it was to use she wanted a sleeve for her iPhone so that she could use the device.

So if you are contemplating one and you have a partner buy a separate sleeve. Trust me they will be impressed.
