New Storm 2 Blackberry Confirmed For This Week

Canadian Company Research In Motion has confirmed that they are set to launch a new Blackberry Storm 2 handset this week.

Available on the Vodafone network the Company is hoping that their new touchphone will get a better reaction from users than the original Storm phone which was described as “shockingly bad. I mean embarrassingly awful.” said one newspaper in the UK.

RIM claims that it has solved many of the problems that bedevilled the original device. It has upgraded the touchscreen, which fuelled many complaints in the original device, and made it far more responsive.

In the past RIM has struggled to develop a touchphone say analysts because of the tight restrictions applying to Apple touch patents and technology used in the popular iPhone.

For the last six months RIM has been developing their SurePress technology, which requires the user to physically press down the screen, rather than just touching it, to execute certain tasks.

The original incarnation of the technology was a disaster with users complaining that it was complicated when they had to send emails. SurePress has been upgraded, however, making it much easier to use, while still ensuring that thick-fingered executives do not accidentally send emails

RIM has also made the call pick-up, end, menu and back buttons that were individual physical buttons on the first device, part of the touchscreen, though this has infuriated some early reviewers who could only get them to work intermittently. The keys on the side of the device, which had a tendency to fall-off the first phone, have been replaced by more durable rubber keys.
