Top rating programs aired on free to air channels attracted an average of 4.9 million viewers, with every one of the top 40 programs on free TV delivering an average audience of at least 1.5 million, says Free TV Australia.

Masterchef was the most successful free to air (from July 12 to August 8) show, with 2.9 million watching the weekday episodes. Masterchef’s finale was watched by 4.4 million people, while ‘The Winner’ episode pulled in 4.946 million viewers.
Other free to air shows getting an average of more than a million viewers (for both metro and regional) were: State of the Origin – Third Match (2.9 million), Seven News (2.1 million), Surf Patrol (2.08 million), Dancing with the Stars (1.9 million), Today Tonight (1.74 million), Getaway (1.59 million), and Funniest Home Videos (1.5 million).
Channel Seven got a 22.7 percent share of nightly viewing (6 PM to Midnight : Metro), followed by Nine (19.8), Ten (18.8), ABC (13.8), and SBS (6.6).
