EXCLUSIVE: Telstra is set to launch a brand new common interface for all mobile phones sold by the carrier, called Telstra ONE the new interface will be revealed for the first time on a brand new Motorola touch phone.
The launch of Telstra One on May 5th coincides with the return of Motorola to the mainstream mobile phone market it also heralds the US companies entry into the “touch” screen market with their new Motorola A3100 which will be introduced featuring the new Telstra One interface.
The return of Motorola into Telstra’s mainstream product offering comes 3 months after Andrew Vollard joined the company as General Manager of Mobile at Telstra.
The new Telstra One interface will sit on top of a Windows Mobile 6.1 Operating system on the new Motorola A3100 which weighs in at 119g and has a 2.8 inch touch screen and navigation trackball that Motorola claims will speed up searching.
Icons at the bottom of the screen take you directly to features such as phone, contacts or SMS eliminating the need to pull up a start menu, users can then step down to sub menu’s.
While it runs on Windows Mobile 6.1, the appearance and use of the new Telstra One interface gives it a completely different look and feel.
Navigation is done by scrolling through the menu icons at the bottom of the screen using a finger or the trackball which is similar to the Blackberry trackball. The new phone also comes with a 3 megapixel camera.
What is not known is whether the new Telstra One interface, which a Telstra spokesperson has said will appear on all new Telstra models, including a new Sony Ericsson device which is also being launched on May 5th, will exclusively deliver Telstra services on the opening page of the menus.
