IceTV has integrated its electronic program guide (EPG) into Elgato Systems’ EyeTV software in an attempt to take on Microsoft’s Media Center.
The guide has been completely integrated into the next release of EyeTV, which allows Mac users to watch, record and edit TV and export recordings to their iPod.
According to IceTV’s business development and marketing manager, Matt Kossatz: “An integrated EPG solution has been the one element holding back the EyeTV and Mac solution in Australia from rivaling PCs running Microsoft’s XP Media Center Edition 2005.”
IceTV will power the TV listings in EyeTV’s program guide so users can browse listings or read synopses of shows up to one week in advance, then schedule them to record automatically. Recorded programs are then stores on the computer.
They will also be able to skip ads and edit out unwanted content before transferring shows to an iPod.
There is also a new feature, dubbed PIMP (Personal Interactive Media Planner). This allows users to schedule recording from any Internet-enabled phone or Web browser.
