FireWave is Griffin Technologie’s new 5.1 surround sound solution for Macintosh, which powers up via the Mac’s FireWire ports.
FireWave also features an extra FireWire port, so you can daisy-chain other FireWire devices, if necessary.
Griffin says FireWave’s small size means it’s not only an option for a desktop but also portable enough for use with laptops. You can use it to either listen to Dolby Digital encoded DVDs in 5.1 surround, or use Dolby Pro Logic II to convert any audio source such as iTunes, QuickTime or streaming audio.
FireWave also supports multi-channel playback from cross-platform OpenAL games such as World of Warcraft and Unreal Tournament – which is sure to please gamers.
