NEC celebrates 50 years of TV

NEC is helping to celebrate 50 years of television in Australia by providing the televisions for the world’s largest TV wall at the TV50 exhibition in Melbourne.

The exhibition, which is run by the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI), opens this Thursday. The TV wall is billed as a major feature of the event and will display footage of the most memorable moments in Australian television from the past half-century, including footage from much-loved shows such as Neighbours, Perfect Match and Mr Squiggle.

The new relationship between ACMI and NEC is appropriate given that NEC was the first company to produce colour televisions, Australian managing director Toshiharu Iwasa said in a statement.

Another key feature of TV50 will be a fully-equipped TV studio, which will demonstrate ‘green screen’ technology. Visitors can be virtually placed on the set of a soap, a talk show couch or at a news desk.

The free exhibition runs at ACMI headquarters in Melbourne’s Federation Square until October.
