Symantec Unveils Genesis Norton 360

Symantec’s upcoming all-in-one consumer PC security service, codenamed Genesis, will be branded Norton 360.

Symantec said the new service is part of its next generation of online security, called Security 2.0, and will include online identity theft protection, backup, and PC tune-up capabilities.

The company said Norton 360 is ideal for families who use the Internet for paying bills, storing photos and music and instant messaging.

“Online threats are sophisticated and rapidly changing. We’re committed to staying ahead of those threats and keeping consumers safe. Today’s consumers want a simple solution that keeps them safe online, without having to decipher technical jargon or keep track of back-ups. They just want assurance that their information and activities are safe. That’s what Norton 360 will do,” said Symantec’s Enrique Salem.

Symantec said the beta program will include email and chat support and will enter public beta in the summer. The company is now inviting customers to sign up for early registration in the public beta.

Norton 360 is expected to launch by the year’s end. Symantec said the specific dates will depend on customer feedback during the beta program. The service will be compatible with both Windows XP and Windows Vista (once available).
