O2’s Mighty Atom

O2 pulled the packaging off their newest ‘prosumer’ mobile phone in Sydney today, the ‘world’s smallest multimedia PDA’, the XDA Atom.

Available in a huge range of piano black, the Atom features a 2.0 mega-pixel camera, FM tuner and the latest Windows Mobile 5.0 OS. It’s multimedia abilities includes full Windows DRM support with inclusion of WMP 10, as well as extra functionality such as graphic EQ provided by O2’s MediaPlus system.

O2 CEO of Asia Pacific, Mark Billington said the new phone strikes at the heart of O2’s aesthetic, “Our mantra is: moving forward, we will only launch obscenely sexy devices. The O2 Atom is an obscenely sexy phone.”

It features a large 2.7″ display, and as far as office functions are concerned it offers Word, Excel and a Powerpoint veiwer. It also supports ‘push’ emails in conjunction with the latest version of Exchange 2003, so that your inbox is always synchronised.

Connectivity is ensured with onboard Wireless Lan, EDGE, GSM/GPRS, Bluetooth, IR and USB.

John Featherstone, Vice President of O2 Oceania said, “With its rich multimedia features and O2 MediaPlus application, this one-of-a-kind device will appeal to users who are looking for a single mobile handheld that attends to all their lifestyle needs. The Xda Atom will further O2’s technological and product leadership.”

The XDA Atom is available from December 7 at a recommended retail price of $1229.
