More People Want A Windows Tablet Than An iPad

A survey of consumers in the USA, China and Australia has revealed that more people want a Windows tablet than an iPad.

A survey of consumers in the USA, China and Australia has revealed  that more people want a Windows tablet than an iPad.

The US and Chinese survey’s which were carried out by the Boston Consulting Group revealed that 42 percent of people in the USA said they would prefer Windows on their tablets to just 27 percent wanting an iPad. Only 20 percent wanted Android, and nine percent wanted a BlackBerry PlayBook.

Chinese demand largely reflected the Microsoft and Google position, although many more wanted iPads at 34 percent while just two percent wanted a PlayBook.

As soon as we saw the numbers we did our own survey of 30 people in Sydney. The numbers were remarkable similar with 44 percent claiming that they would prefer a Windows based tablet than an iPad. 21% said that they would prefer an iPad and 28% an Android based tablet.

The primary reason given in Australia was that a Windows based tablet would run the same applications that people are currently using on their current notebook or PC.

If indicative, the study would point to a large amount of potential for Microsoft. The company just recently showed Windows 8, its first OS genuinely optimised for finger touch and the first that should reach genuinely slim, long-lived tablets.

The study is still contradicted by real-world results and suggest that Microsoft has mismanaged its reputation by failing to live up to hopes.

Electronista said that In the iPad’s first nine months, Apple outsold the Windows platform’s entire tablet PC sales from the previous eight years. iPad sales are so far only going up and now up to 9.25 million a quarter where just a few hundred thousand Windows 7 tablets trade hands in a similar period. Current Windows tablets may be to blame, as the lack of real touch support, the bulk, the short battery life, and high prices make them tough sells versus iPads.
