Google’s Chrome Web browser has for the first time surpassed Microsoft’s Internet Explorer as the world’s most popular Web browser, a Web metrics firm claims.
According to Irish-based StatCounter, from May 14 through May 20, Chrome averaged a 32.76 percent share of global Web traffic, just ahead of Microsoft’s 31.94 percent and Mozilla’s Firefox at 25.47pc.
Contributing significantly, said StatCounter, were Internet users in India, Russia and Brazil, where Chrome is especially popular.
But Internet Explorer is still top dog in the USA, where it has a 37 percent share compared to 23 percent for Chrome, according to StatCounter.
On the world scene Apple Safari is in fourth place with 7 percent. Norway’s Opera has just 1 percent.
