Nokia is moving deeper into the Windows world with a new Play To App that allows users to connect with various Windows devices using DLNA technology.DLNA, which stands for Digital Living Network Alliance, is already found in high-end Android smartphones and the omission of the standard from Windows phones in the past has always been of concern.
Called the Play To app, the new Nokia offering allows Windows Phone users to stream photos and videos to devices such as TVs, game consoles and laptops from a Nokia DLNA enabled handsets.
On the downside music streaming is currently not supported by the new app which is surprising as several other smartphone vendors offer audio streaming.
Those who already own a Nokia smartphone can go to the beta labs site, where you’ll be able to download the application.
Nokia has also made a minor update to its music app, now called Nokia Music 2.0. Early signs indicate the upgrade mainly consists of wording changes within the app – with no new features added.
We hope Nokia integrates its planned DNLA music streaming service into a future upgrade for Nokia Music 2.0.
