Enough: Vodafone CEO Bails

Vodafone’s CEO Nigel Dews has resigned following a turbulent reign as the company’s top-dog.

Vodafone Hutchison Australia has appointed Bill Morrow as the company’s new CEO. Morrow is a Vodafone veteran with his repertoire featuring executive Vodafone roles in Europe, Japan and the UK. He was also the CEO of Clearwire Incorporated and the Pacific Gas and Electric Company.

Current CEO Nigel Dews will assume a senior role with Hutchison Whampoa reporting to Group Managing Director Canning Fok. Dews spent 3 years as the Chairman of VHA with his tenure largely characterised by the Vodafail debacle, trying to mend Vodafone’s at-the-time ailing network. Despite resigning, Dews claims his time at VHA was a ‘privilege.’

“It has been a privilege to lead Vodafone Hutchison Australia, but after nine years in this business, five of them as Chief Executive, it’s now time for a change,” Dews began. “As I turn to my next challenge, I am confident that I leave behind an excellent team that will flourish under Bill’s leadership.”

VHA is only 3 years old and was born out of a merger between Hutchison Whompoa’s 3 and Vodafone’s Australian faction. At present it is the 3rd largest mobile telecommunications carrier in Australia.

Two company shareholders also announced the role of VHA chairman will rotate to the Hutchison Whampoa Group Managing Director, Canning Fok, keeping in line with the company’s JV agreement.
