New LG Cinema 3D Complete With Wi Di Wireless Streaming In 2012

A really smart TV complete with Intel’s Wi Di wireless technology is set to be launched by LG in what is shaping up as a brutal CES battle as to who has the most technology packed into a TV.

The first LG WiDi Cinema 3D products will be on show at CES 2012 and SmartHouse will be there to bring you the news.

In recent weeks LG has struck an alliance with Intel resulting in the Korean Company integrating new wireless technology that allows users to seamlessly stream content from a tablet, smartphone or PC to one of the new LG TVs.

The introduction of the Intel technology will allow HD content and Super HD content to be streamed.

The Wi Di technology was first developed in 2006 when a team of Intel engineers began working on what would later be dubbed Wireless Display, or WiDi, technology.

Launched in 2010 the wireless HD media streaming technology was built into a series of Intel processors including Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors. When attached to a notebook users were able to wirelessly stream 720p HD video to a TV screen.

The new TV technology will stream 1080p video and higher after its joint launch by Intel and LG.

Currently around 50 different laptop models have Wi Di technology built in.

By adding a real-time media compression engine onto the processor and adding security in the media framework display, LG TV owners will be able to stream Blu-ray and premium HD movies.

“Through this strategic alliance, Cinema 3D Smart TV users will be able to access a wider variety of content in a more convenient manner,” said LG Home’s Seog-ho Ro.

“Intel WiDi will be one of several features that will enhance the user convenience of our Cinema 3D Smart TVs, further differentiating our products from the competition.”

“Intel is planning to expand Intel WiDi technology to various devices to provide consumers the seamless, smarter usage experience,” said Hee-Sung Lee, Country Manager of Intel Korea.

“Through this strategic alliance, Cinema3D Smart TV users will be able to access a wider variety of content in a more convenient manner,” said Seog-ho Ro, LG Home Entertainment TV Business Unit senior VP. “Intel WiDi will be one of several features that will enhance the user convenience of our Cinema 3D Smart TVs, further differentiating our products from the competition.”

“Intel is planning to expand Intel WiDi technology to various devices to provide consumers the seamless, smarter usage experience,” said Hee-Sung Lee, Intel Korea country manager. “Through this collaboration with LG Electronics, LG Cinema 3D Smart TV users could also benefit from Intel WiDi without the need to purchase an ex-ternal adapter.”

The system also allows the streaming of online content – such as YouTube videos and streaming TV shows from broadcast websites – that are accessible through notebooks and other mobile devices, LG said.

The system does not require the presence of an active wireless internet or WiFi connection to transfer content between external mobile devices and Cinema 3D Smart TVs.

Intel WiDi does not tie down the mobile device during real-time content sharing, LG said. Users may perform other tasks on their notebooks and tablet PCs while simultaneously streaming content to a Cinema 3D Smart TV, projector or monitor.
