Music has dramatically shifted formats, from the analogue vinyl record, to the cassette, CD and finally today’s digital mp3. To survive in the rapidly changing climate music players have had to adapt through a stream of constant innovations. In an environment when many wither, B&W’s Zeppelin Air reigns supreme.

Best Premium iPod/iPad Attach
Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin Air
$799 | bowers-wilken.net
This is the best iPod or iPad attach product in Australia today that is under $1,000. The sound is spectacular which is what one expects from a Hi-Fi company like Bowers & Wilkins. B&W was already sitting on a good thing with the Zeppelin, but have upped the ante while dipping the price with an upgraded speaker configuration and Apple AirPlay support. The mid-range drivers have been upgraded while a whole new midrange amplifier configuration has been added, upped from two 25-watt amps to four 25-watt class D amps. A key upgrade has also been a new processor for digital-to-analogue conversion and signal processing that delivers unprecedented detail and clarity on the Zeppelin. You’ll be easily forgiven for forgetting the stigma of iPod-attach devices once your ears are massaged by the Zeppelin. It’s not good sound, it’s great sound.
Highly Recommended
Bang & Olufsen BeoSound 8
$1,490 | www.bang-olufsen.com
B&O’s BeoSound 8 missed out on the top-ong by the skin of its teeth because it produces impressive sound in an enclosure that is more impressive than the Zeppelins. Where it fell shy was on value for money, almost setting audiophiles back doule the coin.
