Super-Res MacBooks, Acer Ultrabooks 2012?

Apple look set to launched super-res MacBooks next year, upping the ante for rival Ultrabooks from Acer, and Asus to follow suit.
MacBook Pro will sport resolution as high as 2880 X 1800 pixels per inch, according to Digitimes, a considerable jump from its current resolution, which start at 1280 X 800 native for a 13″ and 1920 X 1200 on 17″ model.

The new Apple displays are said to be retina type displays. Its HiDPI modes in Lion OS already support double resolution, meanwhile Mac Rumours are tipping the super displays will be destined for a 15″ model, which currently features 1440×900 pix.

However, the super-res Mac’s will “will further differentiate” them from rival Ultrabooks’ the new notebook category released this year looking to match MacBook’s light, fast and ultra-thin formula, by Acer with Aspire S 3, Toshiba and Asus Zenbook, say supply chain sources.

And according to the report, Acer and Asus are indeed to follow Apple in the quest for super res screen quality, and like Apple, are busy planning 1920X1080 displays for H1 next year.

Although better than the current Ultrabook’s 1366 X 768 pixels, if reports are correct it still won’t match the Mac.

These ultra shiny displays should be released by second quarter of 2012 and could lead the way for the flurry of Ultrabooks set to hit from a slew of brands like Samsung, who this week announced a 14″ model, as well as HP and others.
