Sony Urges People To Dump Their Partner For A TV

A survey of 2,000 adults has revealed that many are prepared to part company with their beloved TV because they are unsatisfied, citing their TV’s size as the top factor.The survey conducted for Sony also revealed that 62 percent of those surveyed spend three hours or more per day with their TVs.The Sony press release also said that the upcoming holiday period is often a time of reflection and renewal. In online dating circles Sony claimed people would prefer to end a relationship rather than take someone home who may be embarrassing when meeting a family for the first time.

The poll shows that more than half of those surveyed (53 percent) would ‘break up’ with their current TV for one with features that better suit their needs. If doing so, why not shack up with a perfect soul mate to join in a more lasting, fulfilling relationship?

In addition to the nearly one-third (32 percent) of those dissatisfied by their TV’s size, other current television turn-offs include old age, with 31 percent of consumers saying they’re embarrassed by their outdated TV set.  Another 26 percent feel their needs aren’t satisfied and that there are TVs out there that are a better fit for them.

“In the same way friends and family would encourage a loved one to leave an unfulfilling relationship, we at Sony want to urge TV consumers to take advantage of the holiday buying season to date around,” said Jennifer Sassen, vice president brand activation at Sony Electronics. “Happiness is something you can’t put a value on, so it’s worth it to see if there’s other ‘fish in the sea.’ Sony Stores are a great place to test the waters and find a better fit for your lifestyle.”

This survey was conducted online within the United States by Harris Interactive on behalf of Sony Electronics. from November 3-7, 2011 among 2,574 adults ages 18 and older. This online survey is not based on a probability sample and therefore no estimate of theoretical sampling error can be calculated.
