Telstra may be running out of time to satisfy a deadline for a crucial regulatory ruling for the transfer of its fixed-line monopoly to the National Broadband Network, according to an Australian IT report.
The deadline for the consummation of the historic deal has been set at December 20 and Telstra and NBN Co will now need to renegotiate this, the Oz claims.
The paper said it understood delays surrounding details of the implementation of the structural separation undertaking (SSU) meant Telstra had has been unable to submit a final revised SSU outlining its plans to break up its fixed-line monopoly.
The ACCC played down the claims, saying it is in “constructive discussions” with Telstra and the issues under discussion have narrowed considerably.
“The ACCC reiterates its previous advice that it does not consider the remaining issues under discussion to be insurmountable. The timing of lodgment for a revised undertaking remains a matter for Telstra, but the ACCC understands that Telstra intends to lodge shortly,” the commission said at the weekend.
