Optus Scores Exclusive On The New Wafer Thin Motorola Droid Razr

Optus has scored exlusive access to the new lightweight wafer thin Motorola Razr Android smartphone, which will go on sale in Australia in November.

Optus has obtained an initial exclusive deal on the new handset, which Moto is describing as “impossibly thin and lightweight”. (The actual specs are 7mm thick and weight of 127 grams – Moto claims it’s the thinnest smartphone ever).

Motorola’s original Razr was a top-seller in the days before Apple introduced the game-changing iPhone. Motorola failed to update it and eventually dropped the model – but the name still has resonance.

“This brand has a lot of recognition – because of what this brand means in the minds of consumers, we decided to relaunch it,” says Alain Mutricy, senior VP of product development at the US firm, where the new model is dubbed the Droid Razr.

The new Razr has a sculpted glass face, “diamond cut” aluminium accents and a colourful Super AMOLED 4.3-inch screen protected by Gorilla Glass.

Under the thin skin is a dual-core 1.2GHz processor with 1GB of RAM, a front facing camera for video chat and 8MP HD rear facing video camera. There’s HDMI output to a big-screen TV.

Operating system is Android 2.3.5 “Gingerbread”.

Optus plans start at zero upfront on a $59 monthly arrangement which includes $750 worth of calls and 2GB of data. Pre-orders will be taken from October 24.
