Yamaha Takes On Beats With Faithful Sounding Headphones

Yamaha has released youthfully styled headphones that cater to all genres, and not just bass heavy R&B like some Dr Dre inspired brands do.

The new headphones make up Yamaha’s Pro series and include the Pro 300, Pro 400 and Pro 500. Yamaha has designed these headphones to faithfully enhance audio playback, rather than actively manipulating tunes to accentuate certain characteristics, such as bass, and they’re flaunting this by branding them with the age-old tuning fork.

Yamaha’s Headphone Product Manager, Wesley Fischer, offered his thoughts on the two categories headphones today fall into.

Today “you have your boring headphones which are very conservative in terms of their design, or there are those tuned for specific musical tastes – such as exaggerated bass that can spoil the overall sound quality. This is where we see a market for headphones that combine progressive style with high-fidelity, natural sound.”

The Pro 300 introduces the range and is distinguished by their on-ear-design. Next up are the over-the-ear 400s, which isolate the listener from outside distractions and out bigger sound through larger drivers. Topping off the range is the Pro 500s, which feature over-the-ear aluminium alloy ear cups for “exceptional sound detail and an expansive soundstage.”

These headphones have been designed for on-the-go use and as a result, have a foldaway form, come with a carry case and have been engineered specifically for use with smartphones. Apple’s iPhone, iPod and iPad have been particularly favoured with the inclusion of a 1.2 meter cable that has inline controls and a microphone.

The Pro 400 and 500 headphones come with an additional 3 meter cable which is ideal for use when listening to music in the comfort of your home.

Yamaha’s Pro 300 ($249.95), Pro 400 ($349.95) and Pro 500 ($449.95) will be available from stores in November.
