Telstra Confirms HTC Honeycomb Tablet For CES

Telstra executives who are set to attend CES in Las Vegas next week are set to be shown a new HTC Tablet running Android Honeycombe according to sources.

Telstra executives who are set to attend CES in Las Vegas next week are set to be shown a new HTC Tablet running Android Honeycombe according to sources.

One Telstra executive told SmartHouse that HTC have been reluctant to launch an Android based tablet until they “could get the device right” they said.

“We have spoken to Peter Chou, CEO at HTC and he has told us that HTC is doing a tablet but they are concerned over its performance. They want to get it right. They have been working on a tablet for some time. You only have to look at what has happened to Toshiba and Viewsonic, they have rushed to launch tablets prior to Xmas in some markets only to face technical problems” the senior Telstra executive said.

“We have had several discussions with HTC about their tablet and we are looking forward to seeing the new version at CES” they added.

Last week in the USA HTC, filed for a trademark at the US patents office for a new device that is described as a, “handheld wireless device, namely a tablet computer” and reveals its name to be the HTC Scribe.

Traditionally HTC takes a private suite at a major Hotel. This allows them to meet various global carriers. Last year David Thodey, CEO of Telstra visited the HTC suite at CES.
ChannelNews has been told that the model that will be shown at CES will run on a version of Honeycomb which is the next update to the Android mobile OS.

HTC have also developed their own interface similar to the HTC Sense UI which is used on their Smartphones. We have also been told that HTC is working with several other Taiwanese Companies to deliver their own suite of content and applications as well as what will be available from the Android Marketplace store.
