Acer To Launch Chrome Notebook Qualcomm Processor Tipped

Acer, which is struggling in the Australian market, has confirmed that it will launch a Google Chrome notebook in the second half of 2010.

Jim Wong, senior corporate vice president and president of IT product business group at Acer, confirmed a Digitimes report that Acer was now planning the launch of a Chrome-based device, with several insiders tipping that the new Acer offering could also also feature a new Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.
Acer said that it ships one million Chrome-based netbooks in 2010, which will account for 6.7-8.3 per cent of its annual shipments projection of 12-15 million netbooks, according to Wong’s statement.
Wong declined to elaborate on the CPU to be used in the device.
During the interview, Wong also revealed for the first time that Acer will launch e-book readers for sale initially in Asia and Europe in the third quarter and will also begin to run Acer’s own application store for netbooks and smartphones later in the year.
