HTC Horror Show Continues

HTC quietly post poor February revenues, as sales slump 44%.

The mobile maker, who recently unveiled the HTC One, which we (and most others) reckon is one of the best smartphones of the year, said February revenues fell 27% from the previous month to NT 11,4bn.

HTC mobile sales also dropped 44% compared to the same time 2012, it announced yesterday.

HTC, one of the only phone makers to turn a profit from making smartphones – although only just –  along with Apple, Samsung, but its share of the Android market has slumped in the face of fierce competition from rival Samsung, now the world’s biggest phone maker.

The Taiwanese company’s consolidated revenue from January and February 2013 totalled NT$26.9bn.

In December, HTC forecast total revenue for 1Q of NT$50-60 billion, so must be expecting a big March, when the One flagship phone is likely to go on sale.

HTC One recently won the GSMA award for the best new mobile handset, device or tablet at World Mobile Congress last week in Barcelona.

HTC’s Darren Sng said the One will “disrupt Apple and Samsung cosy duopoly in the phone market,” at the Android phone’s spectacular Aussie launch last month.
