During our brief hands-on with the Torch we found the interface to be neat and clean. We were able to set-up our e-mail in an instant while social networking application such as Facebook allowed us to copy our friends list and turn them into contacts. The home screen also comes with six different categories to choose from ranging from all applications, favourites, media, downloads, to frequently used applications.
We were also able to try out some of the new applications available from Blackberry App World such as CoDriver which tells your current speed; Miroamer which is able to stream Internet audio content; Poynt which can show you businesses, restaurants, and movies in your nearest area; and BuzzMe Premium which can customise your Blackberry phone even further. RIM says that there are currently about 10,000 apps available, allowing users to customise their phone.
The new BlackBerry Torch smartphone is expected to be available from Optus “yes” stores from tomorrow, 21 October 2010 for $0 on a $79 plan for 24 months. The BlackBerry Torch 9800 will be available from Telstra and VHA in the coming months.
