NBN Broadband Boss Quits

Days after communications Minister Stephen Conroy quit as the chief spruiker for the NBN the chief architecture for the problem plagued fibre broadband network, Mike Quigley has also thrown in the towel.

Quigley who
was the CEO of NBN Co was in charge of rolling out the $37.4 billion National
Broadband Network announced he was quitting earlier today.

“My job was
to lay the foundations for the NBN for the next 30 years. That job is largely
complete,” he said in a statement.

“NBN Co is
now a well-established wholesale telecommunications company with a nationwide
workforce, delivery partners, infrastructure agreements, complex IT systems and
more than 40 retail customers which are supplying fast, reliable and affordable
broadband to a growing number of Australians,” Mr Quigley said.

“The role
of the next CEO will be to build on these foundations.”

“It is now
critical that we further strengthen our partnerships across the construction
and telecommunications industries, as we escalate the build of the network and
work closely with our retail customers to ensure a smooth migration of families
and businesses to the NBN.”

Mr
Quigley’s departure comes after the federal Coalition put him on notice he may
not continue in the job if an Abbott government is elected later this year.
