Appliances Online, Dick Smith Retail Nod

Appliances Online, Dick Smith get nod for retailing at global awards.Appliances Online, Dick Smith and Catch of the Day were all announced as finalists in the 2014 World Retail Awards, this week.

Dick Smith’s Move ‘fashtronics’ store got a nod for Best New Retail Concept and is up against other majors like US retailer Verizon’s Destination Store.

White goods retailer The Winning Group was selected as a finalist in three categories including; Best Store Design for Winning Appliances flagship showroom in Redfern Sydney; Best Pure Play Online Retailer for Appliances Online; and the e-tailer was also nominated for Best Customer Experience.

Clearly Store, Sydney (The General Store) got a nomination for Store Design under 1200sqm and Woolworths South Australia got a nod for its corporate social responsibility initiative, “The Good Business Journey.”

John Winning, CEO Winning Group, said  “we’re delighted to have been selected as finalists against major global competitors. It’s proof that Australian companies can excel at retail and hold their own on the world stage.

“We’re particularly excited that our flagship Redfern showroom has been recognised as we opened it at a time when other retailers were closing down or reducing their number of stores.

The Awards emphasise the ongoing importance of maintaining a physical retail presence and offering customers choice, he said.

“For Appliances Online to be selected alongside international giants such as Carrefour, Harvey Nichols and Lidl is amazing.”

The World Retail Awards, now in their eighth year, are run by World Retail Congress and attracts entries from 50 countries worldwide. Other finalists include John Lewis, Tesco and UK whitegoods e-tailer AO.com.
The winners will be announced on September 30 in Paris.
