Yamaha has released its most advanced Surround Sound Bar yet, 10 years after launching its first bar-raising model with exclusive YSP technology.
It’s been 10 years since Yamaha first launched the YSP-1 in 2004, since then Yamaha has continually led the market in the development of soundbars. Their new flagship YSP-2500 replaces the previous award-winning YSP-2200 model, it delivers a host of features not seen before in a Yamaha soundbar.
Yamaha claims that their multi-channel sound bars deliver “impressively disguised surround sound to match modern, open plan living”.
The new technology includes wireless music streaming from a device via Bluetooth, as well as app control using Yamaha’s free HT Controller app for iOS/Android phones and tablets.

Damien Henderson, Yamaha Music Australia’s AV Product Manager said: “After a decade in the Sound Bar space, we are continuing to innovate with YSP technology serving as the key difference between Yamaha and the rest of the market.
“Now we are seeing wireless music streaming and app control introducing a new level of functionality, usability and convenience to this key model in our Surround Sound Bar range.”
So, just how is the YSP-2500 wired for sound?
Inside is an array of 16 small speakers, each with their own independent amplifier. Yamaha’s patented YSP technology controls the orientation of the sound through focused ‘beams’, with the centre channel reaching the audience directly, and audio from surrounding channels being reflected off walls towards your ears.
This delivers an immersive surround audio experience without the hassle of the traditional multi-speaker home theatre setup.
The YSP-2500 also supports 4K Ultra HD 50/60 Hz video throughput, with up to 3 HD sources connectable simultaneously via 3D-capable HDMI. When connected to a “CEC-compatible” TV, the YSP-2500 can turn on or off with the TV, and the TV remote control can be used to control the volume.
It also comes with a powerful, wireless subwoofer which can be positioned either vertically or horizontally, anywhere in the room.
Standing 51mm tall without the removable feet attached, and having adjustable heights between 73 and 86mm when the feet are installed, Yamaha’s “low-profile” sound bar won’t obscure your TV.
An aluminium top panel is part of the design and prevents unwanted vibrations, as is a built-in IR repeater which ensures the TV remote signals pass through the YSP-2500 to your TV.
