Smartphone Reseller Calls In Police To Investigate How 100 Missing Phones Turned Up Being Used By Manly Sea Eagles Employees

A major reseller of smartphones has called in the NSW Police after more than 100 smartphones turned up being used by Manly NRL Players.

Police from a special taskforce set up to investigate the
missing smartphones have interviewed both players, club officials and are set
to interview an individual who was involved in the supply of the devices.

Fairfax Media said that detectives from the fraud and
cybercrime squad have formed Strike Force Kempt to investigate the missing
smartphones which include iPhones and Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphones.

A spokesperson for the NSW Police said “For
investigative reasons, no further information can be provided at this
time.”

Manly boss Dave Perry has also declined to comment.

The big question for detectives is whether staff from the
Manly Sea Eagles knowingly accepted and then distributed stolen goods.

Fairfax said that the Australian Rugby League Commission has
the power to suspend, fine or deregister players and officials who bring the
game into disrepute. It’s understood the issue has been referred to the NRL’s
integrity unit, although it’s likely the governing body will wait for the
police to present its findings.
