The Apple Watch Edition, featuring a watch case crafted from 18-carat gold, could carry a price tag of up to US$5,000 (around $5,809), according to a new report.French site iGen has reported the Apple Watch Edition could retail for around US$4,000 to US$5,000, while the stainless steel model could be priced at around US$500.
For those in the market for a luxury timepiece this may not seem like a lot of money to shell out, although whether the Apple Watch will retain its value in the same way as a Rolex is another matter entirely.
However, as reported by Business Insider, there has speculation that the computer chip powering the Apple Watch could be replaceable, which in turn would make it upgradeable and help to retain its value.
Upon unveiling the Apple Watch in September, Apple advised it would be available in two different sizes, 38 mm and 42 mm, in three collections – Apple Watch, Apple Watch Sport and Apple Watch Edition – with prices starting at US$349.
iGen has additionally reported Apple could be looking at a Valentine’s Day release, although other recent reports have suggested the Apple Watch will be released some time after March 20.
