Fitbit is again facing user complaints of its devices causing skin rashes following its recent release of new fitness trackers.With Fitbit having released its new Charge HR and Surge trackers earlier this year, reports have now emerged of users suffering skin irritations, echoing issues Fitbit experienced last year with its Force tracker.
In February of last year, Fitbit conducted a voluntary recall of the Force following users experiencing allergic reactions.
Fitbit is now dealing with the fallout of a number of new complaints emerging via social media.
ABC7 News in San Francisco has reported it discovered more than 200 cases on social media, with Fitbit users taking to forums such as Twitter to vent their frustration.
Fitbit has responded to the complaints, advising that affected users may need to take a break from the devices.
“We continue to be aware of a very limited percentage of users reporting skin irritation among our users,” TechCrunch has reported Fitbit as stating.
“The reactions we are seeing with new products are not uncommon with jewelry or wearable devices that stay in contact with the skin for extended periods.
“According to our consulting dermatologists, they are likely from wearing the band too tight; sweat, water, or soap being held against the skin under the device; or from pressure or friction against the skin, and should resolve quickly when users take a break from the device, usually within hours or days.”
Fitbit further stated it is continuing “to monitor the issue”.
