Woolworths Launches Pre-Paid Telco Offering

Woolworths is again branching out into the telecommunications market, today unveiling its Woolworths Connect service.Woolworths Connect will launch from next Monday, offering both pre-paid mobile and broadband options, utilising parts of Telstra’s 3G network.

Woolworths had previously partnered with Optus in providing telecommunications services, however the partnership was brought to an end in 2013.

The upcoming launch of the service follows last month’s announcement that Telstra had struck a deal with Woolworths, with Telstra announcing a wholesale supply agreement, with Woolworths becoming a virtual network operator.

Woolworths will offer two pre-paid mobile options, priced at $30 and $45, and three pre-paid mobile broadband options, with offers under $15, $30 and $100.

Under the $30 option, customers will receive 1.5 GB of data, plus a bonus 1 GB (until July 31, 2015 on the first recharge), as well as $650 call value. The $45 option will see customers get 3.5 GB of data and $1,500 call value.

“Our customers want a trusted network at a great price and we are excited to deliver this with Woolworths Connect,” Woolworths head of telco Jason Hair commented.

“We’ll also reward our valued Everyday Rewards customers by offering an additional discount every time they recharge. We are excited that we’ll be growing Woolworths Connect over the coming months, with additional services to be offered later in the year.”
