Cameras A Major Feature Of New Sony Smartphones

The emphasis is on cameras with Sony’s latest smartphone releases, with Sony taking the wraps off two new mid-range smartphones in the form of the Xperia C5 Ultra and the Xperia M5.The C5 sports twin 13 MP front and rear cameras, while the M5 is decked out with a 21.5 MP rear camera, while also featuring a 13 MP front camera, with Sony’s latest offerings aimed squarely at the selfie-taking market.

Sony’s “PROselfie” C5 cameras are equipped with Exmor RS sensors, HDR, for picture and video, with Sony stating the front camera is enhanced with the integration of enhanced Selfie Flash, which lightens up more of the frame.

The C5 sports a super-thin bezel for a near borderless display and an aluminium frame. It features a 6″ full-HD display with IPS, and is equipped with Sony’s Mobile Bravia Engine 2 TV technology for video and picture viewing.

Powered by a 1.7 GHz 64-bit octa-core processor and running Android 5.0 Lollipop, the C5 comes with 2 GB RAM and 4G network support, with Sony stating a 2,930 mAh battery provides up to two days of battery life.

The waterproof and dust-tight M5’s 21.5 MP rear camera, meanwhile, features 5x Clear Image Zoom, with the M5 also able to capture video in 4K, while the 13 MP front camera comes with integrated autofocus and full-HD video recording. Both cameras feature Exmor RS sensors.

The M5, which sports a premium glass finish on both sides and stainless steel corners, is decked out with a 5″ full-HD display with IPS, and, like the C5, is equipped with Sony’s Mobile Bravia Engine 2.

The M5 is powered by a 64-bit MediaTek Helio X10 2.0 GHz octa-core processor, runs Android 5.0 Lollipop, and comes with 3 GB RAM and 4G, with Sony stating a 2,600 mAh battery provides up to two days battery life.

“We are pleased to present two new products that highlight Sony’s advances in camera technology,” Tony McNulty, Sony Mobile Communications Value Category Business Management vice president, commented.

“We understand that camera capabilities are important to smartphone users, so we ensured that Sony’s existing camera brilliance was once again surpassed in the new Xperia C5 Ultra and Xperia M5 without compromising on other features across design and performance.”

Sony states the C5 and M5 will be available in selected countries across emerging markets from mid-August.
