Celebs Can Now Stream Live Video On Facebook

Live streaming video has landed on Facebook, with the social network launching a new feature, Live, that will allow public figures, such as Dwayne The Rock Johnson and Serena Williams, to share live video streams.Public figures can share live video via the Facebook Mentions app, designed to allow public figures to talk to each other and their fans, with Facebook users able to access the videos via the figures they follow in their news feed.

Users can comment on, like or share a video while watching a live broadcast, and can also see when their friends or other public figures start watching.

“Live is an immersive and authentic way to connect with the public figures you care about, in real time,” Facebook product manager Vadim Lavrusik wrote in announcing the launch of the feature. “If you don’t catch the live broadcast, you can also watch the video later on the public figure’s page.”

Lavrusik, however, did not reveal if the feature will be made available for general release for Facebook users.

In the coming days, Lavrusik stated live broadcasts from Dwayne The Rock Johnson, Serena Williams, Luke Bryan, Ricardo Kaka, Ashley Tisdale, Lester Holt, Martha Stewart and Michael Buble will feature.
