Another Dolby Atmos-equipped soundbar is set to hit the Australian market this year following a CES launch.
Yamaha already offers a high-end Atmos-equipped soundbar, which also features DTS:X object-based surround decoding and at CES 2016, Samsung announced a model that’s packaged with wireless surround speakers, the Philips offering is set to be sold at mass retailers.
Gibson Brands said its Philips Fidelio soundbar delivers an Atmos 5.1.2 soundfield via Atmos decoder, up-firing drivers that reflect height-channel information off the ceiling, and proprietary Ambisound technology that uses DSP and extra drivers to “full 5.1 listener-level surround sound.” Dolby Upmixer creates height channels from soundtracks that lack Atmos.
The soundbar features 18 drivers, including two upward-firing speaker modules. Angled tweeters create a wide soundfield. Total output is 400 watts, including 8-inch 220-watt wireless subwoofer.
Other features include Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 decoding, dedicated center-channel speaker, two HDMI 1.4a inputs, HDMI audio return channel, and optical and coaxial inputs.
Pricing wasn’t announced.
Gibson Innovations, a part of Gibson Brands, markets Philips-brand audio products under license from Philips. It also offers Onkyo-brand headphones and wireless multiroom-audio speakers.
