Dropbox and Microsoft have expanded their partnership, with the Dropbox app for Windows 10, optimised for tablets, being rolled out in the Windows Store this week.An app for Windows 10 Mobile is also to be rolled out soon, the two companies have advised.
“To try out our Windows 10 app on your tablet, you can download it from the Windows Store in the next few days,” Dropbox’s Michael Shaffer wrote via a blog post announcing the app.
“If you’re using a Windows 10 PC, you can try out these features with the new app or use the Dropbox desktop client.”
Built on the Universal Windows Platform, Steve Guggenheimer, Microsoft corporate vice president of developer platform & evangelism and chief evangelist, wrote that the app incorporates a number of Windows 10 features.
These features include Windows Hello, using either the user’s face, fingerprint, or iris, instead of a password, to unlock Dropbox.
Quick Search allows users to type what they want to search, without the need to click on the search icon, while users can also quickly access recent files using a jump list, right-clicking on the Dropbox app icon in the taskbar.
Users can drag and drop a file into Dropbox from Windows File Explorer, and within the app can also move or copy files into other folders via dragging and dropping.
Interactive device notifications, meanwhile, allow users to accept a shared folder invitation without launching the app, with users also able to add comments directly on their files, and bring others into the discussion with @mentions.
