Has Dick Smith Database Already been Hacked? Customers Asked To Unsubscribe By Receiver.

Within hours of Kogan snaring the Dick Smith online web site, Dick Smith masthead and over one million customers and subscribers the receivers of the failed web site Ferrier Hodgson announced that every single customer will be given the opportunity of opting out of being bombarded with offer emails when Kogan takes over the site in July 2016.

We have also been told that a disgruntled Dick Smith employee has managed to obtain a copy of the database and that certain retailers have been approached to buy a copy of the database.

We could not qualify this claim at the time of writing this story. Information from the same source has been 100% accurate in the past.

According to customers who get emails from both the Kogan
and Dick Smith web sites Kogan is the “more aggressive” of the two
online retailers when it comes to spruiking consumers.

According to Ferrier Hodgson Dick Smith customers have been
given a week to unsubscribe from the retailer’s database.

The email sent to ChannelNews suggest that customer who have
registered more than once will have to unsubscribe from each individual
registration.

“Unless you elect otherwise, you will continue to
receive commercial messages from the new owners of the Dick Smith online
business,” the email said.

The email includes a link where Dick Smith consumers have to
log in to unsubscribe.

“If you do not opt out by following the above link by
5pm on March 22 then the receivers will proceed on the basis that you authorise
and consent to receive commercial messages from the new owners of the Dick
Smith online business and authorise and consent to the disclosure of your
information,” the email said.

Several consumers have contacted ChannelNews claiming that
they were unsure about the email and whether it was a scam.
