Arlo Packs 2K Security Into Compact Smart Doorbell

Arlo has slashed the price of its Essentials 2K Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) to just $79 at JB Hi-Fi, making it one of the more affordable smart home security upgrades currently on the Australian market.

Usually retailing for $129, the wireless video doorbell offers a strong mix of premium features including 2K HDR video, two-way audio, night vision and AI-powered motion alerts. The device can be installed wire-free using its rechargeable battery or connected to existing doorbell wiring for continuous power.

The Arlo Essentials model is designed to compete directly with Ring and Google Nest products, but at a lower entry price. It connects directly to Wi-Fi without needing a separate hub and supports Google Home integration.

One of the standout features is the wide head-to-toe viewing angle, allowing users to see visitors, parcels left at the door and movement around entry points. The 2K HDR resolution also improves image clarity, making details like faces, package labels and number plates easier to identify.

Users can answer the door remotely through the Arlo app using live video and two-way audio, while pre-recorded quick replies help when you can’t get to the phone. An integrated siren can also be triggered manually or automatically to deter intruders.

Arlo includes a trial of its Arlo Secure subscription service, which adds AI-powered detection for people, vehicles, animals and packages, along with 30 days of cloud video storage.

The doorbell is weather resistant, supports remote mobile monitoring and does not require professional installation, making it attractive for renters and homeowners looking for a simple DIY smart security solution.
