Motorola is being deliberately tight-lipped about its next smartphone range, set to be unveiled at CES 2026, but industry insiders are already pointing to a major new foldable designed to take on comparable offerings from both Samsung and Google.
The announcement is expected to take place at Lenovo Tech World, which Motorola’s Chinese parent company will host during CES 2026. Lenovo’s growing involvement suggests the event will focus heavily on innovation and premium hardware, with foldables front and centre.
Motorola, long synonymous with foldable design, has a strong legacy in the category. Under its original US ownership, the company pioneered the iconic Razr flip phone — a device that went on to become the number-one mobile phone in Australia and a cultural touchstone worldwide. That heritage has been carefully revived in recent years with the modern Razr lineup, blending nostalgia with cutting-edge foldable technology.
Fueling speculation further, Motorola has sent a physical invitation to US journalists — but notably not to Australian media — hinting that the reveal may be aimed at a flagship, book-style foldable rather than a traditional clamshell. Such a device would place Motorola in direct competition with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series.
The invitation itself offers a subtle clue: imagery of a small folding book finished in wood. This detail aligns closely with Motorola’s recent design language. In the US, the Motorola Razr Ultra was available with a distinctive wood finish, positioning the brand as one willing to experiment with premium materials and standout aesthetics.
If the hints are accurate, CES 2026 could mark Motorola’s boldest foldable move yet — one that expands the Razr story beyond flip phones and into the next chapter of large-screen foldable devices.
