Klipsch Rolls Out Atmos Speakers Due In OZ Soon

Klipsch whose products are distributed by Powermove in Australia has launched its first two Dolby Atmos-enabled speakers, which add height channels to a surround system that incorporates Atmos object-based surround decoding.

The RP-280FA tower speaker is an all-in-one solution that features integrated height driver, which fires up to reflect sound off the ceiling to deliver overhead sound. It is tipped to retail for over $3,000 in Australia.

The RP-140SA height speaker adds the elevation effect to any existing home theater speaker system.

It can also be used as a surround speaker. Klipsch also offers in-ceiling speakers that can be used for height channels.

The Atmos speakers are part of the Reference Premiere series, which also gets a new centre-channel speaker to match the tower speaker. Other companies with Atmos-enabled speakers include Pioneer, KEF, Definitive Technology, Atlantic Technology, Triad, and Onkyo, which offers an Atmos-enabled speaker package. Klipsch’s RP-280FA tower speaker and the RP-450CA center channel are available in walnut or black real-wood veneer. The RP-140SA elevation speaker is available in a brushed-black polymer veneer. All feature removable cloth-woven grilles that attach magnetically.

As part of the Reference Premiere line, the speakers feature proprietary 90 by 90-degree Hybrid Tractrix Horn technology and Linear Travel Suspension (LTS) titanium tweeters to control directivity and deliver natural sound. The Reference Premiere speakers are designed for low distortion, high efficiency, flat frequency response, broad dynamic range and controlled directivity, the company said.
