A recall of two Shark vacuum cleaner models has been implemented after it was discovered that a specific cable could create excessive heat in the power cord of some models resulting in the real of users getting burnt or being given a severe electric shock.Brand Developers, the exclusive Australian distributor of Shark products, is implementing the recall in conjunction with Euro-Pro, owner of the Shark brand, in consultation with the relevant regulators.
The two models being recalled are the Shark Navigator Lift-Away (model number NV350NZ), units manufactured prior to 18 October 2014 (bearing a production code 4811A to 4114A inclusive), and the All Shark Navigator Lift-Away Professional (model number NV356NZ).
Consumers are advised to unplug their vacuum cleaner at the wall and to not use it again until it has been repaired.
All other Shark vacuums and steam mops are unaffected.
The affected products were sold nationally through the TV Shop and retailers including Harvey Norman, Big W, Target, The Good Guys, Masters, Bing Lee and Betta Electrical, with over 150,000 of the affected models sold in Australia since 2011.
Consumers are advised to register their details here or to contact the Shark hot line on 1800 722 222 to make arrangements to have the cord and plug replaced free of charge at an authorised Shark service centre.
