Sub $6K 65″ Changhong Ultra High Definition TV Set Coming

Chinese TV and appliance company Changhong, who is looking to grow market share in Australia, is set to launch a low cost 65″ Ultra High Definition Smart LED TV next year. The new TV will be shown at the 2013 CES Show in Las Vegas.ChannelNews understands the TV will retail for sub $6,000 and be launched in the second half of 2013.

The Company said they have several new products coming in 2013 and are working towards adding more big-screen Smart LED TVs to their range next year as more retailers stock the brand.

The Company which has 72,000 employees worldwide is looking to break the strangle hold of LG and Samsung. They believe they can do this at the expense of Japanese brands that include Sony and Sharp, who struggling under mountains of debt and falling market share.

Currently Changhong’s Smart LED TV range is proving popular with retailers as many of their products have the same feature sets and the quality associated with premium brands.

“Their products really stack up and are up to 30% cheaper than several well known TV brands” said a Harvey Norman executive.

The franchisee added “The Chinese TV brands are starting to get traction. We are now selling TCL TVs and they are proving popular. All we have to do is put the Changhong product next to a well known brand and it sells because it is cheaper and has similar specs.”

Jonson Xia from Changhong in Australia said that their TV products have the features you’d expect from leading brands, including: full HD; ultra slim design; and SRS 3D sound as well as built-in WiFi.

He also pointed out the Company is also giving away a five year warranty “because we believe in the quality of our brand” he said.

Recently the Company launched a ‘Clown Fish’ ad, which asks ‘Why pay more for the latest in TV technology when you get the same features for less with Changhong?’

He says that an increased marketing spend will help consumers get to know the Chinese Changhong brand name in the same way that consumers got to know the Samsung brand.

The Company has also invested in NBL signage, Radio promotions and Product Sponsorship for the Masters Golf.
