1000 Widgets For Dashboard

The Mac OS Tiger operating system has reached a milestone with the number of Widgets for its Dashboard now reaching 12000.

The growth rate is impressive. Accoridng to Apple dozens are being added each day. Widgets allow Mac users to access information such as weather forecasts, stock quotes, traffic conditions and news.
A single click makes a user’s favorite widgets instantly appear with up to the second information; with another click they conveniently disappear from the desktop.
Widgets are devleoped by third party developers using standard web technologies such as HTML and JavaScript. They are managed via Tiger’s Dashboard widget manager.
“Dashboard is a runaway hit,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “With over a thousand widgets to choose from, users can customise their Dashboards to do almost anything.”
