Google Australia is expected to begin shipping its Nexus 7 tablet to Australian customers today. The low-cost – $249 for an 8GB version – tablet was unveiled at Google’s I/O developers conference last month, and the company began accepting “pre-orders’ from Australian fans soon after.”We’ve had incredible demand for our new Nexus 7 tablet and are shipping them as quickly as possible,” Google Oz said yesterday.
“We will have all orders placed through July 13 processed and shipped soon. Orders placed after July 13 will ship according to the quoted timeframe when you purchased.”
An update on Google’s Play store notes that the 8GB version will ship in 2-3 business days, while the 16GB model will ship in 1-2 weeks.
The 16GB model of the Nexus 7 will also be sold in Australia from late July through a number of retail chains, including Harvey Norman, JB Hi Fi, Dick Smith, Bing Lee, Officeworks and The Good Guys. But it will go for a recommended $319 at those stores, compared with $299 from Google Play
