50% Consumers Switch Off PCs

Bye bye PC: hello notebooks, tabs

Australians are ditching their desktops as they flock to portable PCs like notebooks and tablets.

And most of them are Gen Y-ers.

Thats according to Canstar, whose recent survey revealed a whopping 57% of people are switching desktop to laptops as their primary computing device.

The survey quizzed 2500 Aussie computer users nationwide.

Women are more likely to go mobile with 60% of females and 53% of males having already done so.

“”Early adopters have of course moved through the above and hybrids, may well be on their list, but for now it seems the laptop is the everyday computing item of choice for most,” said Canstar Blue spokesperson, Rebecca Logan.

But interestingly, despite the increasing popularity of tablet and hybrids, just 10% used it as their primary computing device.

Another suprise finding was Generation X were the biggest tablet fans, with 16% using a tablet device more than a PC or laptop.

“Early adopters have of course moved through the above and hybrids, forexample, may well be on their list, but for now it seems the laptop is the everyday computing item of choice for most,” Canstar Blue spokesperson, Rebecca Logan.

The findings come as it was revealed tablet sales will rise 60% this Christmas, globally, with the iPad still atop of the pile.

Canstar Blue’s ‘most satisfied customers’ award for Laptops and Desktops was also iMac maker Apple, with Acer, Asus, HP, Toshiba and Samsung also rating well.

Apple recorded the highest customer satisfaction overall, earning five stars in seven of the eight areas rated, including overall satisfaction in the Laptop category and in Desktops.
