Sony PS3 Price To Be Slashed Nintendo Facing Wii Shortages

Sony Computer Entertainment is set to slash the price of the 40GB PS3 to sub $699 according to retail sources. The move comes as Microsoft rolls out Halo 3 while also trying to fix up hundreds of “dud” Xbox 360 consoles. Meanwhile Nintendo is facing Wii shortages.

Retailers such as EB Games and JB Hi Fi have been advised that the price drop will be rolled out soon. Currently the PS3 sold in Australia is among the most expensive in the world at $999. In the USA the same unit sells for sub $500. This is not unusual with Sony made products.

A store manager for EB Games in Sydney said “We have been advised that the price drop is imminent”.

Sony is also set to roll out several new games.

Meanwhile at Nintendo, new boss Rose Lappin is refusing to return calls that Nintendo Australia are facing a shortfall in Nintendo Wii units running into the peak buying period.

Lappin who last year gave the two finger salute to Harvey Norman by refusing to supply them with Nintendo Wii units recently lost a senior marketing executive to Sega.
